The Central Arkansas Sphinx Foundation (CASF) successfully launched the second phase of its Pathways to Food Security and Equity initiative on October 3, 2024, at Crump Garden in Little Rock. A highlight of the event was the presentation of a $697,000 grant check from the USDA, marking a significant investment in CASF's mission to combat food insecurity.
Several USDA agents were in attendance, including Kylan Williams, Katy Brantley, LeShunda Tucker, and Veronica Edwards, showing their support for this critical community program. Key remarks were delivered by Dr. Pebbles Fagan, Kalven Trice, James Lee, and Arden Jones, president of the Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., each emphasizing the importance of sustainable gardening and community resilience.
The event also featured a garden tour and discussions on accessing USDA resources, ensuring that underserved communities can continue benefiting from the program’s raised garden beds and essential gardening education to promote self-sufficiency and agricultural equity.
